SPRING SYMPOSIUM

In the spring semester of the thesis year, students formally present their research to the public. The day-long Visual & Critical Studies Symposium groups graduating students into thematic panels moderated by prominent scholars representing relevant fields.

About this Event

The symposium showcases the thesis work of the program in Visual & Critical Studies (VCS) students at California College of the Arts (CCA). The event is a rite of passage for the students and a proud moment for those who ushered them to this professional threshold. There are a total of seven students presenting; they are grouped into three thematic panels. Each presentation is approximately 12 minutes long; there is an additional presentation by Carolina Magis Weinberg, the 2021 VCS Alumni Award recipient.

Out of an abundance of caution, as the United States faces an outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), CCA's VCS program has decided to hold the symposium as a live-streamed event online. There have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at CCA, but we understand that concerns about the virus are high across the country and many institutions and individuals are canceling non-essential travel and/or large in-person gatherings.
